leave behind.

Mathieu is my last name. It's the only part of me that might outlast me — and if I'm going to put it on something, it has to be worth it.

This brand didn't start with a business plan. It started with a simple obsession: walking into Selfridges on weekends, spending hours at counters I couldn't afford, trying to understand why a few millilitres of liquid could stop you completely and take you somewhere else.

I spent a long time smelling before I started making. Learning the difference between a top note that grabs you and a base note that stays. Understanding why some fragrances feel cheap at first spray and extraordinary an hour later.

Every Mathieu fragrance is built around that truth. The opening is an invitation. The base is the promise kept.

Mathieu will never be a large brand. Not because it can't grow, but because the moment a fragrance becomes a production line it loses the thing that made it worth making.

Every batch is mixed by hand. Every bottle filled individually. When you buy a Mathieu fragrance, it was made recently, by one person, with an attention that a factory cannot replicate.

I may not have children. I may not leave much behind. But a fragrance that someone opens years from now and is taken somewhere by — that feels like enough.

The name Mathieu will mean something to someone, even if I'm not around to explain it. That's worth making carefully.
